Integrating Prior Knowledge with Learning in Biomedical Natural Language Processing

Rapid progress of natural language processing (NLP) research has been seen in the last year, including significant performance improvement in a variety of NLP tasks. However, the research of NLP techniques in biomedical domain relatively falls behind. The advantage of the biomedical domain is that it has high-quality human curated knowledge base and large-scale literature, both of which contain rich prior knowledge. In this talk, I will share our recent research on biomedical NLP especially the integration of prior knowledge with deep learning models.

Jingqing Zhang is a 3rd-year PhD (HiPEDS) at Department of Computing, Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. Yi-Ke Guo. His research interest includes Natural Language Processing, Text Mining, Data Mining and Deep Learning. He received his BEng degree in Computer Science and Technology from Tsinghua University, 2016, and MRes degree with distinction in Computing from Imperial College London, 2017. In late 2019, he finished an internship with Brain Team, Google Research at California. Jingqing’s Masters and PhD at Imperial College, London have been funded via the HPCC Systems Academic Program and he has used our big data analytics platform to process the data used in his research. He meets regularly with HPCC Systems team members who provide mentoring involving the use of HPCC Systems. JIngqing has produced at least 6 papers during his HPCC Systems sponsored research, maybe more! Find more details about our academic collaboration with Imperial College, London.

  2. Allan Wrobel, Consulting Software Engineer, LexisNexis Risk Solutions Group - Watch Recording
    Introducing the Universal Workunit Scheduler

There are many scenarios when multiple dependent jobs (or workunits in HPCC Systems Thor parlance) need to run in a particular sequence to complete a task. This talk introduces a mechanism for accomplishing this, which has been recently shared in the ‘Tips & Tricks’ section of the community HPCC Systems Forum.

Allan has been working in the IT industry his entire adult life, and had the pleasure of working with LexisNexis Risk Solutions Group for 10 years now. Interests: all things programming and all things data, so this has been a marriage made in heaven.

  3. Bob Foreman LexisNexis Risk Solutions Group - Watch Recording
    HPCC Systems /ECL Training Update

We are excited to announce some great new content that’s available now for our HPCC Systems/ECL training courses. Senior instructor, Bob Foreman, will outline the new lessons in more detail, and tell you how you can get access to them now. We have new lessons for Data Patterns, Visualization and multiple lessons for Machine Learning with more on the way! Bob will also reiterate the option of Remote Training for your small groups for any course or topic that you might have a need. Remote Training is a great option while many of us are working at home. We can schedule sessions to fit your time zone and location. Go to our training resources

Bob Foreman has worked with the HPCC Systems technology platform and the ECL programming language for over 5 years, and has been a technical trainer for over 25 years. He is the developer and designer of the HPCC Systems Online Training Courses, and is the Senior Instructor for all classroom and Webex/Lync based training.
